FTC Advisory: Rental Scams

Since the beginning of internet rental sites, there have likely been rental scams. Real estate agents, sellers and renters have been at risk financially or at risk for their safety at the hands of scammers. The FTC developed an online consumer alert in 2009, along with an online complaint process.  If you are aware of a scam, FTC advises you report it to your local law enforcement agency and to the FTC.  For the consumer advisory, or to report an incident to the FTC online, here are the links:

Government Affairs

REALTOR & Government Day ~ Wednesday, March 11th

REALTOR® & Government Day is your opportunity to help shape laws that affect you. Through lobbying efforts at the Capitol, you'll meet state lawmakers and have a unique opportunity to advocate for issues like property taxes, property rights, industry standards, regulations and more.
Our success as an industry requires active advocacy by every REALTOR®. In 2014, we demonstrated an impressive show of REALTOR® strength by bringing to Madison over 300 REALTORS® from every corner of the state. With your support and advocacy, 2015 will be a day well remembered at the Capitol. **No charge to the first 300 registrants! Register with
WRA.

Thank you to all 2014 Direct Giver and RPAC Contributors!

Thanks to a continually improving economy and housing market, we were once again able to meet our 2014 fundraising goal and help elect and reelect candidates who support the real estate industry and private property rights.
The RANW Government Affairs Committee and the RANW Board of Directors, sincerely thank every single person who gave what they could either to RPAC or to the Direct Giver Program. Although we are not able to list all members who so generously support the RPAC program, every single dollar counts!
A special thank you is also extended to the 2014 Government Affairs Committee Chair: Jane Chariton and the entire Government Affairs Committee.
If you have any questions regarding RPAC or Direct Giver, or if you would like to become involved in the Association, please contact Jennifer Sunstrom, RANW Government Affairs Director at jsunstrom@ranw.org or (920)739-9108.

My InnoVia Hotsheet Widget - Can Be Customized!

The Hotsheet widget that appears on the left side of the screen when you first log in to InnoVia can be customized to show Hotsheet data for only those municipalities you select!  By default, the widget shows Hotsheet information for the entire MLS, and if you’d like to continue seeing data for the whole MLS you do not need to make any change. If you do wish to select your own Municipalities for the Hotsheet widget, simply follow the step-by-step instructions.

MLS Stats

Don't forget - "MLS Stats" is available to MLS members - it allows members to quickly and easily pull statistical reports from the MLS data. Under the Misc menu, or by using the MLS Stats button on the right side of the My InnoVia screen, members will log in to the stats program with their InnoVia login and password, and then choose from a variety of reporting options.

Mapping Your Listing and Data Checker Notifications: Why Am I Getting This Email?

Q:  Why is it important to take time to do manually map your listing?
A:  Your seller's listing will properly show on mapping in InnoVia AND the correct geo-codes links will go with the property when it exports from the MLS into company IDX websites. If your listing is not manually mapped, it will not appear on map displays or be sent to Prospects if a map-based search is used as part of the search criteria.

Q:  I looked at the map and the listing is in the correct place. Isn't that enough?
A:  No. The automated mapping process does a very good job, but the listing still needs to be manually mapped and saved by you or the listing still won't show up correctly in map-displays or in IDX.

Q:  "I already manually mapped my listing!"
A:  Members who use Listing Maintenance are making a habit of manually mapping their listings as soon as they are entered into the MLS, but sometimes receive a Data Checker notification telling them they need to manually map the listing. Why does this happen?

During the listing confirmation process, the listing company and/or Data Entry sometimes has to edit the address fields in order to make the listing conform to MLS Rules and/or match the address on the Listing Contract. Common changes include: editing the street suffix (the member spelled out Drive instead of using DR, or Street instead of ST), the direction field or street number field (the member may have entered 123 N Main St instead of N123 Main St). If any address-related field is edited, the listing will once again run through the automated mapping process, erasing the "manual" geo-code status. Members will then receive a notification to re-map those listings.

Geo-Code Status Now on the Listing Inventory Report

A column has been added to the Listing Inventory report showing the geo-code status of each MLS listing. When members use the Inventory Report, they can view the Geo Status column (far right) and, if the status is anything other than an "O", use the mapping tools on the Inventory Report to manually map their listings.
