Thank You Judd Stevenson!

As the incoming RANW and MLS President, and as a member of the RANW and MLS Board of Directors, I wanted to take this opportunity to virtually thank Judd Stevenson for his dedication and commitment to addressing the issues impacting our industry while serving as our President these past two years. Working closely with RANW EVP Margery Chapman and MLS Director Lynn Schwarm, Judd has stayed abreast of those issues affecting our practice and helped guide us effectively through challenging times.

This last year especially pushed all of our resolve to the limit, for obvious reasons. We had to readdress our entire delivery system of providing core services to our members while complying with Executive Orders from the Governor, keeping staff and members safe, and establishing new protocols for the Board to communicate, meet and take necessary action. This involved imagination, inspiration, a little bit of desperation, lots of cooperation, and plenty of dedication. Through it all Judd maintained a steady, guiding hand, working with Margery and staff to maintain a safe environment while continuing to provide our members with the services necessary for them to work effectively with their clients and customers.

We were all fortunate to have a President who took the position and responsibilities seriously and who was willing to devote the time and attention necessary to leading us through these difficult times. I will do my best to continue Judd's fine stewardship of our association with the same high level of commitment to the position that he's demonstrated for the past two years. Thank you, Judd, for your leadership and for your continued service to the association as a member of the Board of Directors.

Michael Sewell
2021-2022 RANW President

Government Affairs

Local Comprehensive Plan Updates

In 1999, Wisconsin passed a comprehensive planning law that required communities to adopt specific plans if they regulated land. These statutes require local units of government to update their comprehensive plans every 10 years, and in 2020 most communities were due for the 2nd comprehensive update. Below are a list of some communities that are currently engaged in that process. You will find proposed language for important elements to the real estate industry and property owners such as Housing, Transportation, Economic Development and Land Use. We encourage members to take some time to review these plan updates and provide feedback to RANW and to your local officials.

MLS

WIREX: What Is It, and How Does It Work?

WIREX (Wisconsin Real Estate Exchange) is a database that many Wisconsin MLSs, including RANW MLS, share their listings with. WIREX is not a statewide MLS - each participating MLS remains its own entity with its own rules and data. WIREX has its own set of fields that each participating MLS tries to fit its own data into so that all members of all participating MLSs in WIREX can find listings that may fit the needs of their customers.

RANW MLS has two WIREX options - members can use the WIREX side of Paragon to search the entire WIREX database for listings, or if the search area is within RANW's market counties, our members can stay on the MLS side of Paragon to search because RANW MLS imports WIREX listings into the MLS side of the system. The RANW MLS Market Counties are: Adams, Brown, Calumet, Dodge, Door, Fond du Lac, Green Lake, Kewaunee, Lincoln, Manitowoc, Marathon, Marinette, Marquette, Menominee, Oconto, Outagamie, Portage, Shawano, Sheboygan, Waupaca, Waushara, Winnebago, and Wood.

Because every MLS is different, WIREX searches are best started with broad criteria. Depending on the number of listings returned, additional criteria may be added to narrow the results as needed. Choosing criteria that might only be used by a few or even only one MLS (like RANW MLS's offer statuses) will weed out listings from MLSs that do not use that field.

WIREX Participating MLSs are: Metro (Milwaukee), Central (Mosinee), SouthCentral (Madison), Superior Area, Northwestern Wisconsin, Marinette, Western Wisconsin, La Crosse, Manitowoc, Sheboygan, Rock-Green, Ozaukee, Lakes Area, Racine, and Southshore MLSs.

Not participating in WIREX are the Door County and Northwoods MLSs. Their public websites can be found at the links below:
